We dominated the first half right from the first whistle. Our pressure was constant. We were awarded a Penalty Stroke in the 8th minute when Mia's shot was stopped by a foot on the line. Unfortunately, Mia put the stroke wide of the post.
Guildford then broke away and managed to score with their first attack to put us 1:0 down.
The girls doubled their efforts, and several goal mouth scrambles didn't fall our way, plus a couple of outstanding saves.
At half time we talked about how we were the better team and just needed to keep the pressure up and goals would come.
Guildford started the second half stronger, but we equalised 7 minutes in. Rachel injected a PC to Liv, who slipped it left to Felicity whose shot hit the backboard with a satisfying thud.
Guildford continued to threaten and took the lead again halfway through the period from a PC of their own.
Chances continued to come and go, and we reached the last 5 minutes. Another PC was won. Rachel injected to Liv, who slipped it right to Fliss. She took it past the first defender and played it across to Ella at the back post. Ella's first shot was saved, but she calmly reverse flicked it past the keeper to equalise for the second time.
As the prospect of shuffles loomed, Guildford won another PC. It broke down and from the restart Ella was put through just outside the 23. She took it wide and crossed. Tilly got a touch on it and it fell to Emilie who managed to squeeze the ball through the keeper's pads, where it continued on its way into the net. Defeat had been turned to victory (and a well deserved 3rd place) in 2 minutes.
