The Men's 5s once again had the graveyard shift against an unexpectedly youthful Camberley and Farnborough 4s and on a day when goals seemed to be the name of the game, finished the game as it started with a 0-0 draw.

Don't think the game wasn't entertaining, because it was, with both teams looking to play a good style of hockey but ultimately keeping the ball a little too narrow to fashion many 'whites of the eyes' chances.

After last week's tough day at the office, it was great to see the team start positively, moving the ball confidently and looking resolute at the back as we welcomed Jed McEvoy in goal with Dave Houston and Matthew Pryor making up an impenetrable central defensive pairing. Jack Child and Sam Logan started at full back with the skipper swapping in after 'recovering' from umpiring the L5s previously. The game was controlled though by our midfield with Jake English and Dave Ellis starting in the centre and James Threadgold and Joseph Corps on the flanks. Riley Morrisroe and Matt Coleman started up front and it was the latter who had our first real chance but he couldn't test the keeper.

C&F had some dangerous young players (which made a change from their dangerous older ones we've previously encountered !), but we managed to keep them at arms length from Jed in goal.

We rotated Clive Harder and James Edwards on to give the front 6 a break, but when half time came we couldn't fashion a goal despite some mazy runs from Threaders into the D.
The second half continued in the same fashion, with some good hockey played but few clear cut chances. The best coming for Dave Ellis who brought an excellent full length diving save from the youthful 5 foot nothing C&F keeper who tipped the ball round the post.

As full time drew near we were awarded one of the very few penalty corners the game saw and with time expired we brought everyone forward. Unfortunately as I've already spoiled the plot you know this came to nothing ! Full time 0-0. We probably felt this was two points lost, but against a team who'd won by 6 clear goals last time out, this was a good result.

Thanks for James Abley for umpiring despite having taken a painful blow to the ankle in his game earlier (not that this wasn't forecast . . . )

MotM - Jake English - an excellent performance in midfield, all over the pitch with some great distribution too.
DotD - Jake English - for slipping up and ending up on his backside as the ball came to him in the D from a cross from the right which could have seen us break the deadlock (admittedly the ball was behind him, but as this was one of the few things that went wrong today, bad luck !).
