Scorers Jack Reeve 3, Errol Parrish, Craig Steven
The progress continues as we build week on week and 3rd game into the season we finally found the net, having drawn blanks on our previous 2 outings, and found it on 5 occasions. And unlike the men's 2s and ladies 2's we earn't our 5-0 win!
We had a few new additions to the Squad with Noah joining us from the 4s (Sorry JT another one i'm not sure you will get back!) And new club members Joe Willcock and Craig Steven who both had their first training sessions on Tuesday and their first game today. And the pleasure of Lisa Scarborough running the subs bench, pitch side support and coaching.
We started with Griff in goal, a back row of me, Geoff and Rob, Errol sweeping in front, midfield of Harry, Ed, Chris and Joe and Jack and Rhys up front. With Phil, Craig and Noah on the subs bench.
We started well with some good periods of play but Epsom were well organised and it took us a while to break them down. What caused them the most problems was the pace up front and our first goal came from Jack not giving up on a ball that most would of assumed had gone off. He dragged it back beat one, one two'ed with i think Harry before finishing well. 1-0 his second came soon afterwards when he latched onto a great through ball from Errol. Beat one defender and smashed a rocket into the bottom corner past the keeper. Shortly before halftime we won a short, injection into Errol at top D who drilled his shot past the keeper. Half time 3-0.
Chat at half time over oranges (thanks Joe) and jelly babies was use the width more when attacking and defend narrow. And not to compress too much upfront.
Second half continued as the first finished although Epsom's sub turned up so they now had 12! Jack scored the next to complete what I believe was his first adult hatrick and definitely his first of many goals for the 3's. And halfway through the 2nd half Craig transitioning right to left across the D hit a good reverse into the bottom left corner (his first goal for the club and apparently his first on the reverse).
We didn't have it our own way and Epsom made a few incursions into our D and made Griff work hard for his clean sheet including a triple save.
All round it was a very good performance with a sprinkle of 'Lala magic'. A big thanks to Lisa for running the bench and all of her great advice before, during and after the match. To Gibbo for stepping up from running the bench to umpiring and for Georgie taking the other whistle.
And a big thanks to our supporters from the sideline and the 1st teamers who stayed to watch. I hope we entertained you!
MOTM was slightly one sided but before announcing I must repeat Griff's vote which was split equally between the four juniors playing for us today. Harry, Jack, Noah and Rhys you have all matured so much coming into this season which was evidenced today. When you lost the ball you battled to get it back, you chased everything and you gave no quarter against a decent opposition. So with Geoff, Griff, Noah and Harry all getting votes by a clear stretch of 8 votes it went to Jack.
