L2 v OGs

Today L2’s took the short trip to Addlestone to play OG’s 3’s.
Our avid fans will know that we got promoted with OG’s last season. And that our last outing we lost *ahem* 9-0. And that generally they’re quite a strong club overall.
A huge thanks to LaLa & Liv Richards for helping us out this week, as we lost a few players before the game.
While our game was called off last week, OGs got themselves an 8-1 win. But we had a great training session this week, so felt like we could bring something to them.
We started off very evenly, strung some good passes and got the all up the pitch - They scored fairly early on from a defensive error (??♀️) however, this did not get our heads down & we managed to score from a short corner - Maria Vatis injected to Jess, who slipped it to Lizzie, it then found itself to a perfectly placed Lisa who popped it over the keeper! Back in the game.
Half time coach Bernice & LaLa gave us tips about better positioning and getting strong on the ball. Again we started well but tiredness set in, and though we had a few breakaways & chances in the D, it became a very defensive game. After a number of short corners, they got another goal. But that was their lot. Defensively we dug deep, so it ended 2-1 to them. And we are happy - it’s the closest league game they’ve had all year and it shows how hard we’ve worked to gel, and shows such promise for the season ahead!
A huge shoutout to the whole team - we all played really well and ran our socks off. Some good channeling, tackling and forcing errors; a few things we can work on but it’s only up from here!!
Lizzie, Tilly, Ellie, Nisu, Jess, Olivia, Poppy Met, Maria, Lisa, Vicky, Lanie & Garvey you all rock❤️
We missed you Emma, Katie, Lisa & Akane.
POM - Maria, Vicky, LaLa and me all got votes but it went to Garv, who had an OUTSTANDING game in goal, saving lots of shots & directing us from the back.
Special mentions to Maria for her work rate and great play in the middle. Me for my calmness on the ball, Garv for her saves, Olivia for a great debut (awesome work Liv!), and LaLa for being a ‘beast’ on the pitch ?
