After weeks of making the right moves but not getting what we wanted from the games we are back in business ready to smash out the end of the season!!
A very convincing performance from the legendary Ladies 1s. We have tonnes of talent in the L1s and Following Ellen Knighton’s training all about supporting the player on the ball by providing options. We did this and then some today. The ball glided around the pitch from player to player causing the Leatherhead players to get frustrated and our amazing supporters to jump with joy!!
First half we kicked off proceedings with a beautifully taken Pflick from Fliss. Despite our dominant play Leatherhead were good on the break! They came at us strongly on occasion but the defence of Katie Garratt, Chloe (Jennie Morgan) Vicky Rondeau, Kate Cradden, Leigh Beale, Rachel Butler managed to close down and eliminate most threats. Leatherhead had a few shorts and managed to get a good sneaky goal in.
Meanwhile the majority of the possession was still ours but we kept just missing by inches of the post! At half time we realised this match would be decided by who came out and fought for the win. So we went, fought and won! We added another 2 goals to our tally. The first from a beautiful tomahawk from Lucy Rutherford (must mention it was assisted by Chloe!) and a well worked short finished by Lucy again! In this half we also had at least 85% of the possession and the game was played at least 75% in our half (correct me if I’m exaggerating). On a different day it would have been 5-1 ??????.
The midfield of Imogen (Nicola Scutter) and Liv (Claire Rutherford) and Fliss were instrumental in moving the ball up and down the pitch sand always calling for the ball to support.
The forwards of Lisa Hobkirk, Lucy and Mia (Grainne Bradley) moved and posted to the ball they attacked tirelessly. Their amazing work resulted in Lucy and Mia tying for MOM. It’s amazing how both being a goal scorer on the ball and an amazing support off the ball is just as valued! A lesson to all hockey players out there ❤️
Unfortunately the pflick and the great game was not enough to save Fliss from Donut as she taped up the wrong ankle before the game and left us standing in a goal waiting for a photo while she swapped it ?
