Sorry in advance if this is not completely accurate, I'm not used to writing match reports ?
Firstly, it was the hottest day ever so well done for everyone playing in the heat I know we were all dripping with sweat after!!
We started the first quarter with some nice transfers along the back and a few breaks near to the end with some good passes down the wings and support from the screens (Liv, Charlotte and orla) and defenders (Kate, Emily and Rachel) but we failed to get the ball into the goal but so did they until they made a sneaky unfortunate break into the D and a tap into the goal from the P spot.
We went into the second quarter raring to go and determined to get the ball in the goal. We held constant pressure to their players with lots of effective presses and communication from the back to the forwards and mids which was very helpful. We had many powerful shots on goal from everyone (in which I missed an open goal ??‍♀️?) but with great passes connecting to great runs Kara amazingly drove the ball into the D beside the baseline and slipped it to Izzy in a great position in which she scored from the P spot ?.
At half time everyone was knackered but with lots of water we kept on going and pushed through the last two quarters.
We had some amazing breaks, tackles, runs and ball stealing from the mids (Kara, Amelie, Meg and Millie) which they cleanly fed up to the forwards (me, Charlotte, and Izzy) where we had more shots but just couldn't manage to score but neither could they (with many amazing dives and saves from Lauren). We had some short corners near to the end in which we had some good plays but their defence unfortunately picked up on them. However, we held our defence up and wouldn't break down to let them score because of how tired and hot we were!! Haslemere were dangerous on the break but our press managed to intercept passes and disrupt the play when they had the ball. We controlled the game really well and we're very unlucky to draw, however we should be proud of how we played. We discussed some areas for improvement which we will definitely take to training next week and work on throughout the season.
Well done today guys, everyone played amazing (especially in the heat!!) another good start to the season ahead ?
