In the least surprising opening statement: today was too hot for hockey.
The M1 travelled to Reading HC for our 2nd pre season friendly, off the back of a 3-1 win against Basingstoke last week. Just FYI Edward Peet (sorry for the lack of report)
Reading brought a squad of 16 against our 13 and their extra numbers really made the difference today but despite the scoreline, I was particularly impressed with the efforts put in by all our players today.
For the first 3 quarters we managed to hold Reading back at only 2-0, and did make our own chances further up the pitch with a couple of shirt corners that we just couldn't convert.
Sadly by the 4th quarter, the heat and exhaustion seemed to set in for us and we started to struggle, coming under increasing attacks from Reading which we couldn't stop all of. By the end of the game Reading had put another 3 in the back if the net.
Thanks to our excellent management team of Coach Lala and team manager Greg, for keeping us on the boil for so long.
Next week will be a longstanding pre season friendly.. Alton M1.
