The name Travis McCall will not mean much to the younger members of the club but his name is well known to the older members and it is with great sadness that I have to inform you of his passing.
Travis joined the club in the late 70’s and enjoyed a good 10 years on the pitch but he will be remembered for his committee activities. He was Treasurer for many years, then Chairman and finally President of Fleet Hockey Club - the predecessor to Fleet and Ewshot Hockey Club.
His legacy as Treasurer was to make sure we had a strong financial resource in case we needed access to emergency funds. We still have this fund today and it has proved useful on several occasions. He also was on the committee that brokered a deal between Fleet Cricket Club and SD Systems. A partnership that thrived until we broke away to use the Aldershot pitches and clubhouse. He was a great organiser, committee man and friend and he kept a keen eye on the club even after he retired as President.
Apart from hockey Travis was very involved with the Fleet Lions and latterly with Fleet Baptist Church. He ran a successful accountancy business in Fleet and as my accountant our annual meetings consisted of 45 minutes chat about the club and 15 about my accounts!
His eldest son Jonathon also played hockey for FEHC and is now a highly ranked hockey umpire in Wales.
He will be sorely missed by his widow Jill and family and fondly remembered by the club for all he did.
