u16 Girls A beat Reigate 4:0

A game marred by first half game-ending injuries to Felicity and Erin was comfortably won in the end. We wish both of you a speedy recovery and hope to see you soon.
We started strongly with a couple of PCs before Mia's shot was saved and Ella put away the rebound after 5 minutes. It was 2:0 on 13 minutes when Felicity scored with a straight strike from Rachel's PC injection.
Then came the first of the injuries. Felicity went over on her ankle in a challenge with a Reigate player and hobbled off. 10 minutes later Erin went shoulder to shoulder in midfield and hit the astroturf hard on her left side, and also left the game.
Understandably these blows knocked the girls off their stride, and Reigate dominated the final 10 minutes of the half without ever creating a clear cut chance.
At half time we were reassured to hear from parents that neither injury involved broken bones, and so we set about the second half. We reorganised with Rachel and Liv in the centre of midfield, flanked by Amelie and Naomi. It worked brilliantly as the team stepped up to take responsibility in the absence of Felicity and Erin. We dominated the second half, and deserved the 2 goals we scored. The third came from a scramble during a PC. Liv's first shot was saved, as was Amelie's rebound. Rachel was left with the simple task of putting the loose ball over the line from about 6 inches. A few minutes later it was 4 when the Reigate defence stopped for a whistle on the other pitch. Ella didn't stop and put the ball on a plate for Mia.
Well done girls for adapting so well in the second half. The triangles down both flanks were really good, as was the defensive play and attacking threat.
