M2 Vs Woking
The team was a little lacklustre during the warmup... turns out we don't have many Italians in the team to raise our spirits... luckily the opposition didn't pull out an equally unlikely victory... the warm up was slow, the team quiet... but the game started and whilst we had plenty of the ball we clearly knew it was going to be significantly tougher than the previous meeting... it was a fairly even encounter, but Flushot were making more chances, and our first to count was an impromptu short corner... 2s standard opener... right post deflection... except... well... Woking runners all went to that side, not even to the top! Which left James Dale and Matt Viney open on the left post, James getting the vital touch... 1-0... floodgates preparing to open? Well, not really... the game was fairly open; Woking never really looked like scoring, but they were breaking down our chances... however a fantastic ball through to Archie R found him tying their defender in knots, before Kyle's great deflection made his cross look good (his words, well almost!). 2-0 at half time... floodgates then... no!
Woking pulled one back, penalty corner with a fair bit of controversy but 2-1
And then 2-2? A great strike saw Felix flying out of the way... but alas the shot was just outside the D... still 2-1... were Woking making a comeback... their supporters who had been lubricating their vocal chords since about 12:30 certainly thought so... but we dampened their spirits with a calm finish at the far post by Charlie D to make it 3-1...
MOM went to Kyle, great running and touch.
DOD was evenly spread, Dale's crustless sandwich that he turned up with, Alex getting wound up by the opposition, me for implying that one of our defenders might have passed to their CF, Geoff for firmly questioning the umpires decisions... however I took one for the team for a slow motion wind up lasting about 5 seconds only for me to top the ball and see it dribble towards the goal.
Thanks to our band of travelling supporters for their shouts of encouragement...
