Festive Update

On 17th December, the Club held our charity match in aid of The Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice in Farnham. We raised a fantastic £264.23 on the day with this sum being kindly matched by Graham Jackson's employer, Sun Life Financial of Canada, thereby bringing the total to almost £530. The Club has been unable to hold this annual event for the last two years due to snow, but this year the weather was kind, albeit cold and it was very well supported with over 40 members attending in various Christmas related outfits. Thank you all who came along.

Rachel Kulsdom from Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice stated: "Many thanks to all at Fleet & Ewshot Hockey Club who have helped raise this money. In the current difficult economic climate, we value even more than usual the wonderful support shown to us by our local community. Events such as this make a real difference, helping us reach the target of the £15,000 we need to raise every day in order to maintain our services that support local families facing the difficulties of dealing with a life-limiting illness."

Have a great New Year. The next event is the Chairman's match on the 7th January.

TRAINING NEWS

Message from Angie

With the increase in attendance at training this season, both the Ladies and the Mens teams are now starting to see some improved results.
The Junior/mini section of the club has also grown considerably this season. The Monday and Thursday sessions have been busy with players eager to join and play.

These training sessions would not run well without the help of the club's coaches so I would like to thank Clive Harder, Mike O'Connell Graham Jackson and Dawn Niblett who have assisted with the junior sides.

Also to Rob Scott who has assisted me with the Ladies section and Jeff Lucas who has been a massive help coaching  all of the mens section.

Steve Davies has also been  working fortnightly with our GK's and having a specialist keeper coach  has really improved our  existing GK's and GK's new to the club.

For FEHC to continue to improve and win more matches  we still need to see more  players at training so that we can practice and prepare for our matches on Saturday. Hope to see more of you soon!!

BREAKING NEWS

Congratulations to Amber Jackson who has been selected to represent Hampshire at hockey,  following her nomination to attend an assessment at the Junior Academy Centre.
This is the second step on the England  Hockey development ladder, also known as County Hockey.  Amber will receive further coaching in core skills and match play from qualifed coaches  as well as competing against other JAC's within the South region.
This is a major achievement by Amber who was in competition with lots of other players from  much larger hockey clubs clubs such as Winchester, Southampton and Trojans.
All the coaches agree that Amber has reached this goal by sheer hard work and determination , whilst also having the ability to learn everything she can from training at the JDC's & JAC's, as well as Fleet & Ewshot HC Under 14's training and Ladies training which she attends every week.
Well done Amber . We look forward to you making your Ladies 1st team debut in Hants Div 3 next Saturday!

Coaching Tips

Here's another handy hint!

V Dragging

When you have eliminated a defender by V Dragging do not then run off in the 45 degree direction that you are facing. Get your left foot between the defender and the ball and then cut back in behind the defender.

This makes it much harder for the defender to run after you and should keep you going in the same direction that you were originally going in - towards the goal.
