Men’s 1st XI Match Report

Fleet v Andover

We went into the game well aware of the exemplar reputation of their umpire and the kinds of results that Andover’s 1st team would have been proud of. However, none of this proved to be an issue in a match where we did ourselves justice and played some good hockey throughout. The first half was well fought for the first 20 minutes, until an Andover double had us 2-0 down – we came close through a short corner deflected onto the cross bar and were unlucky to convert a goalmouth scramble. At HT, we realised that we were still very much in the game, the difference in quality between the two sides was next to nothing. We got off the mark through the returning Tim Durance , employing a useful reverse stick finish to beat the keeper. Andover scored a goal to keep the deficit at -2. Though the Man of the Match, Danny Edwards flew down the wing, dribbling around players and pulled it back to myself for a sweeped shot onto the back board. Andover responded with another goal to make the score 2-4, though we responded with 15 minutes to play through Matt Viney who’s finish from the top of the D found its way into the bottom right corner, 3-4. Unfortunately, we couldn’t manage to find a fourth goal, despite our performance reflecting at least a draw. Notable mentions should go to Robbie Morgan for playing the Berbatov role to perfection and James Dale-Heaps (the real DOTD) for his greed at The Tweseldown. But it was Dan Edwards on the wing who was relentless all game, showing great pace and dribbling who won our vote for MOTM. Geoff Slack and myself picked up the joint DOTD award for sleeping on the pitch/going to his car during the warm up and missing from close distance/falling over a hockey ball in the warm up, respectively. Anyway, a coin toss later I find myself writing this report. Ran out of stuff to say……
Tim got a green…
Daniel Dolding rents a tablet off his friend for £1 and a packet of cherry drops a week….
Anyways, the M1s have found their form!! Look out for our win next week on the final day of the season…
